ADVERTISING QUESTIONS

How does advertising influence consumption?
Advertisement show the viewers the good side that the product brings and the people will be distracted from the bad side and look only at the good side. They also have celebrities that advertise for them for the celebrities fans to follow. They can also use attractive models to advertise.

Do you think citizens are sufficiently informed about the sustainability of our consumption habits? If not, how can we become more informed about sustainability issues?
I don't think the people are aware of the sustainability problem, what they could do is to think more about the bad side of the product and think about whether they need it or not.

Do you think these advertising techniques influence what you and your friends purchase?
We are in the same age range and if the advertisement is for a specific age range then we are affected. My purchase and my friends' purchase might not be that different because we may like the same celebrity that is in the advertisement.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT EXAMPLES

Water:
-save water by turning off faucets when not using
-check for and fix leaking faucets
-don't spend too much time on showering, washing dishes

Transportation:
-ride small, efficient vehicles that don't release many CO2 like cars
-ride carefully and avoid accidents. Accidents -> broken car, broken bone -> CO2 to make new car, CO2 to provide needs for patient

Energy source:
-use energy sources like solar, hydro, and wind energy and less fossil fuels

Recycle:
-recycle anything you can so that factories won't make as much products out of CO2

MIGRATION STORY

Hello, my name is David, I was living in Ha Noi, Vietnam but I had to move for safety reasons. I still remembered the time when I moved out to the outskirts of our country. It was the most impromptu internal migration in my life; we had to flee from the capital because the urbanareas were having some serious ominous earthquakes. My family decided to settle down in this small and miserable village until all the disasters are gone. There are also many other people who were herding to this shelter, too. The earthquakes caused much destruction, I heard that after I left, my villa was crushed in half along with my backyard.

I had to leave all my friends behind because this relocating wasn’t affordable for them. I had to leave all my possessions, and I even had to leave my pet dog, Buck. All my parents said was our shelter don’t allow dogs. I missed my piano lessons and my piano had probably been broken or stolen. Even though I didn’t like this new place very much, but it provided moresecurity than the cities. I stayed in my refugee until the disasters were completely over. The people here had similar ethnicity so I found it easy to interact with them. The best thing was that I left all my homework and my miserable grades at home.

A Message From Mother Nature?

What is the main point of this article?
The main point of this article is that scientists prefer calling the Earth changing climate change instead of the term global warming because it's not just the Earth getting warmer.

List four vocabulary words that you do not recognize or understand, lookup the definitions, write them out using your own words.
reluctant - not wanting to do something
skeptics - to suspicious something
contending - to argue or to fight
arid - really dry and bad land

What is the difference between “weather” and “climate”?
Weather is how the region is like for a short time and climate is how the region is like for a very long period of time.

- Flooding in Pakistan
- Heat wave brings drought and destroy many forests and grassland.
- Flooding in New England, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma
- Extremely hot areas in Eastern USA.

What experiences have you had with “extreme weather”?
I have never experience weather, even though I seen rain storms in Saigon a lot, and I experienced 10 inch flooding.

What does the word “perception” mean?
Perception is how you see something in your point of view.

What is your “perception” of global climate change?
My perception is that we cannot redo what we have done, but we can fix our mistakes by slowing the process of destroying our home down.

History of M&M Island

A long time ago, in the year of 2010, the United States of America created the biggest blue M&M in the world. The whole world was amazed; people from around the world came together and ate the M&M. Five years later, the president of the United State decided to throw the M&M down the sea because it began to rot and the population were quickly decreasing because of obesity.

2020 was the year that it all began, radiation from factories were thrown out the sea and it created a sea monster called Ery that liked to eat M&M and it also made pieces of M&M came alive. 2025, the M&M pieces started to scatter all around the island, they settle down into lands that they discovered. This movement was the first improvement of the M&M Island history. In 2089, when all the lands were discovered, the government of the M&M Island separated the island into four territories. Five years later, this island was divided into four countries: Blue, Red, Yellow, and Brown. These names were based on the color of the mountains that they made in that same year. They also made a chocolate river to eat and drink.

In 2107, these four countries fell into a crisis; they used almost all the resources that they made. The government of each country wanted to take resources from other countries. One year later, the war began; Blue made its first move and relocated their capital city to a new location near the 43 degrees longitude and 45 degrees latitude. Blue attacked Brown. When the war was occurring, many citizens of each country mostly Blue, moved into places like the mountains, the villages, even some migrated to another country just to find shelter to hide from the war.

Blue was struggling because the Ey monster ate 25 percent of their territory. Very few villagers survived and moved away from the coastal regions. One year after the big lost of land caused by Ery, Red decided to cooperate with other countries and took over Blue. Blue territory fell after two years of fighting back.

The other three countries decided to split Blue so that they can have an equal amount of land. They decided to eat their ancestor’s diet again; which was sugar from sugar canes. There were still many Blue survivors that were fighting against the other three countries for their land and their honor because they were the first M&Ms to walk on the M&M Island.

What I learned about my classmates...

I found out a lot of interesting facts about my classmates. I was amazed by how much classmates are half Chinese half Vietnamese because their origins are from China. Although most of them forgot their Chinese.

I also think it’s pretty cool that one of our classmate’s ancestor is a famous Vietnamese general, Nguyễn Trãi. She had a very antique book about the family tree. She said that she stopped the family tree because she is a girl, unless her parents have another boy than the tree can keep on growing.

Three Physical Characteristics and Two Human/Environmental Interaction of Vancouver

Vancouver is a province in South West Canada, it is near the state Washington. Vancouver is a pretty nice place in the summer. The weather is very cool and it sometimes rains. There are many mountains and it is quite cold on the mountains. There are fogs and snow on the mountains. At night, it is very cold and windy.
Where I went in Vancouver, people usually turn the air conditioner hot because it is cool outside. People in Vancouver plant alot of trees so the province has many fresh air. Mostly every houses plant flowers so it is a very colorful province. And of course, people skin furry animals to warm themselves.

Something About Me

I have been studying at AIS for almost more than three years since fifth grade. I like to play different types of sports like basketball. I know how to play the drums, before I used to learn piano but now I forget everything because I didn't study it for a while. Before my hair wasn't curly at all, but I don't know how I got how it look today. Nobody in my family has curly hair.
